Ideas

Been given the theme "stillness and memory" and not be able to use music, I was quite stuck at the beginning for ideas, until I broke it down using a technique that my lecturer told me to do I finally started to generate some ideas. Below is my ideas breakdown, I have highlighted in red what I want to use:

Who
-Fictional character or none fictional character
-Grandparent
-Yourself - Personal - Family
-Stranger

From this short list, I chose for my video to be personal to me and for it to be something to do with my family and the memories which we have together.

What
-Journals and diarys
-Photo albums - Family?
-Social media -Memories are being formed on social media constantly
-Archives - Found footage/Photos
-Pre-existing story
-Memorabilia - Old toys/objects/locations
-Patchy memories - does anyone really remember exactly?

Why
-Influential events
-Formative events
-Informative events
-Death of a family member
-Moving away - family being apart

Where
-Home town
-Home - bedroom
-Significant locations (Personal)
-Street - public - country

When
-Past
-Present - Memories are being made continuously
-Future - sci fi - events that have yet to happen
-Narrative talking about past and memories

I then drew up a mind map and pulled all of the things within this list that I was interested in and displayed them on the map. By doing a mind map I can let my ideas spiral off into different directions to give me different choices.

To narrow my ideas down even further, I drew up a second mind map:

My idea - Dear Me
To explain briefly, my idea is going to be personal and about family. The narrative is going to be about how I miss my family and how things have changed in my life now that I am older and don't live with them anymore. Through the footage, I will show that we were once a close nit family. Within the video, I will include footage of objects from my childhood such as toys, I will also reveal significant parts of the house which placed a big part in my childhood such as a swing in my back garden. At the start of the video, there will be a lot of still video shots taken on a tripod in a photographic way showing things around the house, I will be using a lot of "focus pulling" throughout these shots.

Throughout the whole video, there will be clips inserted angled at an ariel view of people opening a box of old family photos and placing them on the table as well as looking at them. This will be continuos throughout the entire video, just cutting in to it every now and then. There will also be footage of the family on a day out at a canal (a personal place we used to spend a lot of time at). I will also try to include archive footage of our home videos from when I was younger, but this may prove to be difficult as I'm not sure how to take an analog format video and change it into a digital format.
